Frequently asked questions.

  • Hiring an attorney is an investment and an important decision.

We ask that you review the materials on our website. If you find value in what we offer, request an initial meeting and strategy session to evaluate whether Church Legal is the right law firm for you.

  • We work with a number of individual health care providers, nonprofit entities, and private medical practices, as well as many “business associates” under HIPAA. This often requires that we utilize HIPAA compliant methods when sharing or accessing protected health information.

When appropriate, we do provide and sign Business Associate Agreements with clients.

All clients, regardless of whether HIPAA applies to the clients or the information being shared, have access to tools that are designed to be HIPAA compliant.

The privacy and security of the information entrusted to us is of utmost importance and Church Legal provides these methods of communication and information sharing to all clients.

Our client portal provides clients with ongoing access to important information, the ability to share and receive communications, to schedule appointments, and to pay invoices.

  • **NOTE: There is currently no charge for an initial meeting and strategy session to discuss continuation of representation by Christen. More information may be found here.

Yes, in general we do charge for initial meetings and strategy sessions with new clients. This allows us to focus on our current clients and their legal needs.

We do provide educational content on this website that is free and available to potential clients.

When we have our initial meeting, the goal is for our discussion to be more than surface level.

In some instances, the initial strategy session will result in the client identifying a path forward without needing any further legal services.

With certain flat fee arrangements, this initial fee will be credited toward the flat fee. Any such arrangement will be outlined in writing in the flat fee addendum to your engagement letter.

  • We primarily charge using the billable hour, billed in 15 minute increments.

We also offer services on a flat fee basis when practicable. The flat fee pricing will be provided after our initial meeting in the form of a flat fee addendum that outlines the flat fee and scope of services.

  • Many companies do not have the need for a full time employee to act as general counsel, or companies may have a single attorney or small legal department that will need additional support for larger projects or for specific subject matter support.

For companies without an attorney on staff, we fill the role of answering and researching legal questions that arise from time to time. We also review documents and proposed terms of transactions. As is the case with an employee general counsel, for certain specialty matters and litigation we will assist the company if the subject matter is within our legal focus and if it falls outside of our focus, we assist the client in engaging with appropriate litigation counsel and/or facilitating referrals.

For subject matter support, such as investigating a HIPAA data breach, responding to an over payment action, or assisting with the protection and management of a company’s IP portfolio, we will often work with and support on staff legal counsel and/or the company’s current outside legal counsel or law firm.
